Welcome to Nadi Astrology

Nadi Astrology is an ancient Indian method of Astrology to learn about one's past, present and the future. It is said that thousands of years ago, the great sages of Indian had the power to look into the past and future of the entire universe and recorded the life of each human being who either lived, were living or were to live. At some point of time , those findings were documented on palm leaves in an ancient Tamil script, which can now only be deciphered by expert Nadi astrologers.

NADI in Tamil means “ in search of“. Because an individual goes in search of his predictions to this system, it came to be called by this name, Nadi Astrology. The palm leaf inscriptions, otherwise known as Nadies, are scattered throughout India. Some of these palm leaf inscriptions, Nadies available in Tamilnadu were standardized, ordered and classified in Tamil Nadu nearly 2000 years ago during the reign of the Cholas in South India. There are Number of Nadies, palm leaf inscriptions available named after the Rishis who composed the same. There are only a few Nadi readersavailable who could interpret the inscriptions which are written in the poetic language. There are various Nadies, palm leaf insciptions available like Agathiya Naadi, Shukha Nadi, Brahma Nadi, Kaushika Nadi etc.

Each Nadi is a collection of the inscriptions of a particular Rishi concerned , written in Vatta Ezhuthu , a Tamil script, with a sharp, nail-like instrument called Ezhuthani. The palm leaves are preserved by the application of peacock oil on auspicious occasions. These palm leaves are still preserved in the Saraswathi Mahal library of Tanjore(Thanjavur), in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The primary centre for Nadi Shastra/Nadi Astrology is in Vaitheeswarankoil, near Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu.

The palm leaf inscription of an individual is spotted out on the basis of that individual's thumb impression. Modes found in the thumbs of the people on the earth are classified into more than 100 categories. The Nadi, palm leaf inscriptions are arranged according to these categories. The Nadi readers identify the particular category of the mode on the thumb and the corresponding set of palm leaves are taken out. The time duration to pick up one's leaf depends upon the identification of the thumb impression. Some impressions are identified easily and the corresponding leaves are found soon.

Leaves are there not only for Indian nationals but also for foreigners and other nationals belonging to other religions and creeds. Its all one's destiny to get the leaf identified and the predictions known to the person concerned.

HISTORY of Nadi Astrology:

The origins of the Nadi Astrology are shrouded in the mists of time. This marvellous system of prediction has been used to give reliable guidance for many centuries: knowledge about ourselves (past and future), our relationships and our destinies. Research shows that this system has been in use for at least 4000 years, since the treatises were first written (on palm leaf scrolls) in Sanskrit, the predominant language of ancient India. The original transmission was by oral means, before the committal of the texts to writing. The shastras are believed to have been first composed long ago by the Sapta Rishis (seven sages) -- Agasthya, Kausika, Vyasa, Bohar, Bhrigu, Vasishtha and Valmiki.

The primary centre for Nadi Shastra is in Vaitheeswarankoil, near Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, a state in South India. Here Lord Shiva is said to have assumed the role of a vaidhya (a doctor), who alleviated the miseries of his devotees. Until the 1930's, Nadi remained an ancient legacy, hardly used or even comprehended by the majority of Hindu Astrologers.

The preservation of the Nadi palm leaves and the translation from Sanskrit into the Tamil language was undertaken on a large scale during the regime of the Kings of Tanjore (9th-13th Century AD). When the leaves started disintegrating with age, the Tanjore rulers appointed scholars to rewrite them on fresh ola (palm leaves). Some of the Nadi Granthas were also translated into another South Indian language, Telugu. The Maratha king Sarabhoji and the Chola kings patronized these translations.

When the British left India they took with them some of the ancient manuscripts and texts delving into Alchemy, Ayurveda, and Rasayan, while those pertaining to occult sciences were left behind and auctioned. The Valluvar community, who specialized in Astrology at the time, bought these palm leaves and made Nadi reading their hereditary profession and means of livelihood.

Each Nadi is made up of a particular ola or palm leaf, written in vatta ezathu, Tamil script, with a sharp, nail-like instrument called ezuthani. The palm leaves are preserved by rubbing peacock oil on auspicious occasions. These palm leaves are still preserved in the Saravasti Mahal library of Tanjore, in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The predictions in the Naadis are in a commentary form, though in Shiva Nadi these predictions are presented as conversations between Lord Shiva and Mata Parvathi, expressing concern for and blessings on their devotees.

The Granthas are a set of highly organised manuscripts divided into sixteen chapters or kandams. These Kandams serialize the various aspects of materialistic and spiritual life of an individual such as family, marriage, profession, wealth , luck etc.
PROCEDURE of Nadi Astrology :

On obtaining the aspirant thumb impression, it is handed over by the Nadi reader at the library, as it the scientific fact the whirls and loops of every individual is unique and it is next to impossible to be replicated. The thumb lines are classified into 108 types. The writings in palm leaf bundles are indexed & classified in the library according to thumb impressions to facilitate easy searching of the bundles. For each thumb impression there are likely to be around 5 to 6 bundles; each such bundle in turn containing 50 to 100 leaves. One particular leaf might be that of the individual, but the process of finding out that specific leaf is laborious and time consuming. The reader has to read out one statement from the first leaf and it confirms to the individual, he will read out the second statement to verify its veracity. If this statement does not hold true for the individual, the reader passes on the next leaf, discarding the previous one. It will therefore will be evident that the reader will have to go on searching leaf after leaf, bundle after bundle to trace out the one leaf in which all the particulars concerning the individual correctly appear. To expedite this process, the aspirant seeker has to extend his full cooperation and support because this process may take weeks or months.

These results in the tracing out of not only the index leaf but also the first leaf of the individual also called General Kandam. The General Kandam will furnish brief predictions corresponding to the 12 houses of the individual's birth chart. It detailed predictions of any particular aspect of one's life are required, they can be listened from the remaining 11 leaves of that individual's Horoscope.

For the predictions to come true, Rishi Agasthiya insists that the individual be free of any previous birth sins. He therefore suggests and specifies the performance of certain Parihars remedial procedures to wipe off the maximum extent any such balance of sins. If these remedies are performed with full involvement and without any deviation, he assures the happening of the events predicted by him. These remedial procedures are to be found in separate chapters called Shanthi & Deekasha.

The taken in locating the right index and subsequently the predictions, can sometimes span across months

After few attempts, searching these index volumes if the native does not find his or her index page it may be concluded that either the index is lost or he/she is destined to find it at later stage.
